Best practices for storing your bike in winter
Winter is coming fast, and soon it will be time to store your bike for the cold season. Proper storage protects your bike and makes for better rides! Here are some practical tips to help you get your bike ready for winter until spring comes back.

Maintenance and inspection: how to go about it?
First, make sure your bike is clean and in good condition before storing it! A bike that’s well protected for winter is a bike that’s almost ready for next spring. There are several ways to inspect and clean your bike. No need to break a sweat!
Doing the maintenance at home
The most economical way to protect your bike is to maintain it at home. You can do it in 5 easy steps with the right tools. Take the time to clean your bike thoroughly, lubricate the chain and check the condition of the parts.
It’s the perfect time to inspect your bike carefully! That way you can avoid costly repairs if something breaks next season.

Leaving the maintenance to our repair shop
Don’t have the time or the desire to inspect and clean your bike yourself? No problem, the Cyclo Services team can take care of it! Our team of experts will be happy to maintain your bike ahead of winter.

Taking a bike mechanics course
You may not know it, but you can become an expert in bike maintenance! All by taking a bike mechanics course at Cyclo Services. We offer different course options depending on what you want to learn. You’ll learn how to maintain your bike at home, fix a flat and adjust your brakes.

Where to store your bike?
No room at home? Our repair shop offers a winter storage service at 289 rue Saint-Paul, from October 1 to May 1, with an optional tune-up. Otherwise, here’s how to store it properly at home.
Once your bike has been properly maintained, you need to decide where to keep it for the winter. Ideally, store your bike indoors, somewhere warm, such as in the house or the garage.
The key is to store your bike in a dry place, sheltered from the weather. You want to avoid rust and other potential damage at all costs. If your bike is stored indoors, avoid leaving it near a heat source so the rubber doesn’t dry out.
You don’t need to hang your bike to store it! You can simply leave it standing on its wheels. Just make sure the tires are properly inflated to avoid deformation or loss of air.
It doesn’t matter whether you hang your bike or just keep it in a dry corner of the basement! What matters is giving it a good inspection in spring and pumping up the tires before you ride.
If you don’t want to put your bike away for the winter, you can use a trainer and turn your road bike into a stationary bike. It’s a nice way to solve the storage question! But remember that the bike will keep adding kilometres. It will need regular maintenance before going back on the road!
