Fatbiking in Québec City: riding on snow this winter
In winter, bikes often get put away until spring. Yet a fatbike lets you ride on snow, with no special experience. Here’s how it works in Québec City.

What is a fatbike?
A bike with oversized tires inflated at low pressure. They offer a large contact surface, which lets you float on packed snow where a regular bike would sink. If you can ride a bike, you can ride a fatbike.

Where to ride in Québec City in winter
Our guided tour leaves from the Old Port, follows the docks near the ice fishing village in the Louise Basin, then the Saint-Charles River corridor to the snowy trails of the Domaine de Maizerets. About 15 km on flat terrain, at an easy pace, with a stop for hot chocolate and a snack.
How to dress
- Several thin layers rather than one big coat: you warm up quickly when pedalling.
- Warm, comfortable boots that sit easily on the pedals.
- Ski goggles and a helmet are provided; tuques and mittens can be borrowed at the counter if you need them.

The tour at a glance
- December to March, depending on conditions.
- About 3 hours, departing from 289 rue Saint-Paul.
- Ages 14 and up, minimum height 152 cm (5 ft).
- Fatbike, helmet, ski goggles, certified guide, hot chocolate and snack included.
